JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Hospice Clinical Trainer is responsible for coordinating, delivering, and tracking required hospice training across the organization. Using approved training materials supplied by the Quality department, this role ensures annual, onboarding, competency, compliance, and survey-readiness training is delivered in an engaging and practical manner. The Hospice Clinical Trainer maintains reliable completion records, follows up on outstanding requirements, and partners with hospice leadership, quality, compliance, and operational teams to keep staff prepared to provide high-quality, compassionate, and compliant hospice care.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
In partnership with the Director of Quality and Compliance, assists in implementing the annual hospice training calendar to ensure required training is scheduled and completed within established timeframes.
Delivers and facilitates required training for clinical and non-clinical hospice staff — including onboarding and orientation for new team members (providers, nurses, CNAs, social workers, chaplains, volunteers, and operational staff) — using approved materials, facilitation guides, case examples, and skills-practice activities supplied by the Quality department.
Coordinates live, virtual, field-based, and self-directed training sessions using approved materials supplied by the Quality department to support staff access across locations and schedules.
Establishes new hire profiles and assigns required modules and learning activities in the Learning Management System (LMS), including Relias or other approved platforms, for both new hires and current staff.
Tracks completion of all required training (annual, onboarding, competency, compliance, and role-specific), monitors status routinely, identifies overdue or at-risk requirements, and follows up with employees and leaders until completion is achieved.
Maintains accurate, survey-ready training files, competency records, attendance documentation, and completion reports; provides leaders with clear reporting on completion rates, upcoming deadlines, and compliance risks.
Supports audit preparation and survey readiness by producing timely, complete training documentation and responding to requests for evidence of completion.
Facilitates competency validation and skills reinforcement using established checklists and standards, including individual or small-group coaching to close identified gaps.
Partners with hospice leadership, quality, compliance, and clinical leaders to identify training priorities based on regulatory requirements, audits, incidents, performance improvement work, and survey preparation needs.
Collects participant feedback and monitors training outcomes to improve delivery, engagement, and knowledge retention.
Supports PIPs, QAPI initiatives, and corrective action plans by coordinating and tracking required training interventions.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice preferred; other relevant clinical licensure or hospice experience may be considered.
Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (CHPN) or relevant certification (preferred).
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in hospice or palliative care.
Experience facilitating training, managing required learning programs, or serving in a clinical leadership role.
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field
Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles and engaging training facilitation techniques.
Ability to organize and manage a high volume of recurring annual, onboarding, and compliance training requirements.
Strong attention to detail and experience tracking completion, maintaining records, and producing compliance reports.
Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
Experience with compliance documentation, competency tracking, and regulatory survey preparation.
Ability to work independently, follow through consistently, and collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, multi-market environment.
Ability and willingness to travel as needed to company offices throughout Colorado and to locations in Texas and Missouri, including overnight travel when required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, LMS platforms such as Relias, virtual training tools, and reporting systems.

The salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. The pay range for this role in the state of Colorado typically falls between $80,000 - $110,000 annually with the potential for performance-based bonuses and other benefits. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as qualifications, experience, and location within the state.
